Cities Aviv released the track “Float On” a while back. The track is backed by a beat that is from Blackbird Blackbird‘s cover of “Float On” from Modest Mouse. But now, Cities Aviv has released the visuals to this hot track . The video was directed by Parker Hays who does a good job of capturing the massive emotions felt from the song. Gilbere Forte' - Born A Blessing

Gilbere Forte' - Born A Blessing by gilbereforte

Born in Flint, Michigan on July 14, 1987 rapper/producer Gilbere Forte’ began his journey. Following his parents separation at an early age, Gilbere headed to Chicago with his mother for several years before landing back in Flint for a short stint with his father. In 1999, Gilbere found a home in Philadelphia, where he remains today with his brother, DeNiro.

Music has played a central roll in Gilbere’s life since birth. Learning from his parents taste, and healthy vinyl collections Gilbere was introduced to the likes of Issac Hayes, Roy Ayers, Phil Colins, and Sade as a youth. By age 9 he was reciting raps from likes of 2Pac, B.I.G. and Outkast, which inevitably led to Gilbere penning his own songs by age 12. In 2000, songwriting gave way to production and an initial foray into beat-making with Fruity Loops and Reason. His sound captured the attention of the neighborhood, where Gilbere soon became known for his mixtapes and for supplying local singers and rappers with the soundtrack to their dreams.

The inspiration to take music seriously led Gilbere to pursue a degree in Entrepreneurship & Business Management at Temple University, where he enrolled in the fall of 2006. As Gilbere progressed as a musician, he was aided by his brother DeNiro’s own growth in the industry. Working in radio, brand management, and through his own production efforts, DeNiro provided Gilbere a trusted guide through the challenges of selling and working in music.

IAM feat Cheb Khaled - Bladi (concert en Egypte)

IAM -Marseille France was first formed in late 1985 by Akhenaton and Khéops, under the initial name Lively Crew. Lively Crew became B.Boys Stance some time during summer 1987, after which it was joined by Shurik’n, Freeman and Imhotep. In 1989 the group was renamed IAM, and they produced their first album, IAM Concept which was released the following year. They signed a contract with Virgin Records, and went on to publish the album … de la planète Mars (1991), which became a major hit in France. However, IAM’s big break did not come until their 1997 album L’école du micro d’argent, which took only two days to become a gold album in France and eventually sold over a million copies, becoming a diamond album. L’école du micro d’argent also brought the group some international fame.

After the massively successful 1997 album, members of the group began to pursue solo careers. Akhenaton had already published his first solo album, Métèque et mat, in 1995, and he was followed by Shurik’n and Freeman with albums in 1998 and 1999 respectively. Most members of the band now started to work on other projects of their own as well, such as Akhenaton’s 2000 film Comme un aimant. However, the group remained intact, writing tracks every once in a while for their album Revoir un printemps, published in 2003.

Fonky Family - Bad Boys de Marseille

La Fonky Family (often shortened to La Fonky, or La FF) are a French hip hop group from Marseille. They are composed of four rappers, Le Rat Luciano, Menzo, Don Choa and Sat, the producer Pone, DJ Djel, the dancer Blaze, the singer Karima, and manager Faf Larage.
Fonky Family made their first appearance on the French hip hop scene in 1994, after IAM had paved the way for new hip hop artists originating from Marseille. In 1995, they appeared in the song titled Les Bad Boys de Marseille on Métèque et mat, the first solo album by IAM’s Akhenaton. Their first album, Si Dieu veut, came out in 1997 and soon received a gold album. After the release of the album, Karima left the group.
In 1998, the group were invited to collaborate with Akhenaton on the soundtrack of Luc Besson’s film Taxi. The film became a huge success and its soundtrack topped the French charts. After numerous collaborations with different members of IAM on their solo albums, the group released an extended play (EP) record with six live and edited titles, titled Hors série volume 1, in spring 1999. Hors série volume 2 was released in 2000.
Their second album, Art de rue, came out in 2001. After that, many members of the group chose to pursue solo careers: Le Rat Luciano had already released a solo album in 2000, and Sat and Don Choa followed in 2001 and 2002 respectively. DJ Djel produced two compilations in 2001 and 2003.
In January 2006, Fonky Family released their third album Marginale Musique (Jive/SONY BMG), which debuted on the French charts straight at number one.

Aether

Artifacts
Label: Exponential
Released: Nov 2008

"To the casual listener, hip-hop has always been a music form that is about its visceral power, a force to make its partakers revel in the moment through the shaking of asses. A common misconception about hip-hop is that it's solely dance music for people lacking an affinity for the open hi-hat and bass drum stomp of the Euro-club sound. Less informed listeners tend to overlook hip-hop's capacity to be a vehicle for pensiveness, instead simplifying the artform into one-dimensional party music that sometimes comes with a political conscience (backpacker hip-hop). In their minds, there is absolutely no way that hip-hop could possibly compete with ambient music as the soundtrack of choice for thoughtful reflection. Aether's beautifully layered, meticulously textured debut LP, Artifacts, which is unquestionably a hip-hop record, serves to challenge that claim. While only one MC is present on the album (in the form of a ghostly, sampled verse on its final track), its gritty drum loops, propensity for sampling, and emphasis on simple, groove-heavy rhythms allow it to fit comfortably into the genre. These aren't mere soundscapes; each piece is driven by drum tracks that only enhance the hypnotic feel of the album. Each of the San Antonio producer's tracks possesses a tragic sense of nostalgia, achieved through the use of some of the most basic elements of hip-hop. Choppy, hard-hitting percussion tracks, manipulated, low bit-rate string samples, and ethereal, soulful vocals form the core of the record's musical palette. The gorgeous melancholia present on all sixteen tracks makes the album a cozy place to nurse your head when you're not in the mood to be lulled into slumber by Brian Eno. Artifacts may not get anyone in the zone on the dance floor, but it's perfect music to zone out to." - URB MAGAZINE

Aether is the alias of Diego Chavez, a graphic designer and music producer based out of San Antonio, TX. Chavez also records under the monikers; Otic Angst and A.M. Architect in addition to producing tracks for the conscious based hip hop group Lotus Tribe and rock band The Panic Division. And yes you are right...he doesn't sleep. As a child, Diego spent the scorching Texas summer days at his father's art studio conversing with painters, surfing the internet, and daydreaming. While in high school, Chavez began skipping school to host jam sessions in his garage with his friends. Then came along Wu-Tang and Fruityloops and Chavez began making beats for his friends to freestyle to. It wasn't long before Chavez's sound began to mature and find a life of its own. Chavez is a diverse producer capable of making rock, downtempo, hip hop, electro and experimental music but there is definitely a signature sound that carries throughout. Most of Chavez's music is structured around the gritty boom bap sound of East Coast hip hop but there is also a dreamy and romantic soulfulness that inhabits each song. "Artifacts", Chavez's first full length solo album, is no different. Each song on the album is lovingly sculpted and an expression of beauty, love, tragedy, hope and everything else that makes us human. Chavez is quickly making a name for himself, having already released a handful of tracks on Exponential compilations as well as remixing and producing for various artists. His remix of Lykke Li's, "Little Bit" has already garnered much love from critics and listeners alike. It's no wonder that Chavez is considered to be one of the new producers to look out for.

Non Phixion - If You Got Love

NON PHIXION (pronounced non-fiction) was a hardcore hip-hop group formed in 1995 in Brooklyn, New York. It consisted of three MCs — Ill Bill, Sabac Red, and Goretex — plus DJ Eclipse. Ill Bill and Goretex are considered to be along with a few other key figures responsible for orchestrating the booming and highly popular “Underground Rap” scene in New York City in the early nineties.

The group was originally formed in 1995 by Ill Bill and MC Serch of 3rd Bass fame after many years of Bill, Goretex and Necro working together as a unit after growing up together in Glenwood Projects, which is located in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Ill Bill and Necro’s short lived “New Minority” was a stepping stone for them as a rap act after disbanding their thrash metal band “Injustice” who had opened up for such popular thrash and death metal bands such as Sepultura, Obituary and Napalm Death. Ill Bill and Goretex’s “The Dead Celebrities” was their next musical entity, which ran from 1992-1993 and can be found on Ill Bill’s Early Years cd’s as well as Necro’s. Their second offering, the extreme “Department Of Forensics” which was active from 1993-1995 and also had featured producer 10K who went on to do early production for Non Phixion, was an experimental hardcore rap outfit combining horror elements with urban realism sounding like a cross between N.W.A and The Geto Boys on L.S.D.

DIPLO VS SUNDAY GIRL Four Floors

Diplo, Diplodocus, Wes Gully, and Wes Diplo are all pseudonyms of Wesley Pentz, a Philadelphia-based producer and DJ since 2003. Together with DJ Low Budget he runs Hollertronix, a party and music collective. In addition to his solo career, he has worked with Sri-Lankan/Tamil singer and artist M.I.A.. The two were also romantically involved. Pentz’s alias, short for Diplodocus, derives from his childhood fascination with dinosaurs.

As a DJ, Diplo is characterized by his eclectic, often 80s-oriented mashups, mixtapes, and live sets. On his full-length solo effort Florida, however, his sound is closer to sample-based cinematic instrumental hip hop, not unlike the work of DJ Shadow.

Born in Mississippi and raised across the southern United States, Diplo picked up much of the local culture while growing up there. Music styles such as dirty south, crunk and miami bass are now trademark ingredients of the Hollertronix output. Pentz’s solo work is also influenced by Southern Gothic and other southern literature. Additionally, world music is a strong musical influence on Diplo, especially baile funk which he encountered whilst traveling in Brazil.

Diplo was recently signed to Ninja Tune, on the Big Dada imprint. In 2006, he started his own label, Mad Decent, signing Brazilian baile funk group Bonde do Role and Dj Blaqstarr.

Living Legends

The Living Legends crew is a family of independent hip-hop creators. From primary earth bases in Los Angeles and Oakland, the Legends extend worldwide and beyond.

It all started with BFAP (now known as Sunspot Jonz) and Luckyiam.PSC, who laid claim to the name of Mystik Journeymen in the early 1990s. By ‘94 they were locally legendary for throwing Underground Survivors shows, houseparty style at their loft - 4001 San Leandro Boulevard in East Oakland. That’s where The Grouch hooked up with the Journeymen in 1995, just before they took off on their renowned first European tour.

Around the same time in the southern part of the state, Mid-city Los Angeles to be exact, 3 Melancholy Gypsys (Murs, Scarub & Eligh) were part of the almost mythic Log Cabin crew going back to 1993. Log Cabin later broke up and the Gypsys wandered separately. As it turned out, the 3 would cross paths again in the Bay Area and became Living Legends.

Aesop came to Oakland from Fresno, Arata from Osaka, and Bicasso from various points, East, West and elsewhere…

In 1999 the Legends shifted their center of gravity to Los Angeles, but their presence has definitely not diminished in Oakland and the Bay. You know it makes no difference where they stay because the universe revolves around them anyway. Over the years, the Journeymen and the Legends have rocked Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada numerous times, plus they’ve toured the USA, north and south, east coast, west coast and beyond …

In the years since the Legends have continued releasing solo and crew projects and now have a catalog of over 50 full-length albums and numerous singles.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

Beginning in the winter of 2008, MC Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis linked up to create their debut EP entitled “VS.” Based off an idea to sample relevant, contemporary bands, the EP exposes Hip-Hop fans to genres they may be less familiar with, with the hope of appealing to hipsters (let’s be real). “VS.” re-imagines the sounds of Beirut, The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Arcade Fire and many more. The EP will be a completely donation-based release dropping at the end of November. “Otherside” (the first leak from the project) mashes big drums and orchestral pieces over Anthony Kiedis’ classic song about battling with heroin addiction. Macklemore now tells the story of Hip-Hop’s experience with drugs and a first person narrative about his own struggles with drug addiction and rehabilitation.

swollen members - Dark Clouds (Feat. Evidence) - Black Magic

Swollen Members was founded in the mid-1990s by Vancouverites Mad Child, Prevail and Moka Only. Having begun a solo career while living in San Francisco, California, Mad Child returned to Vancouver for some work. There he met Prevail and Moka Only, working as partners and making a name together on Canada’s West coast hip hop community. The trio saw each other’s abilities, thought they heard opportunity knocking, and joined together under the name Swollen Members. Soon after, however, Moka Only decided he wanted to pursue a solo career and left the group.

In 1996, Mad Child and Prevail went to the B-Boy Summit in San Diego, California, where Mad Child won several rap battles and was initiated into the Rock Steady Crew, legendary to the hip hop/b-boy scene. The Crew is held in great respect as hip hop’s highest collective - to join one must win a contest of skill against one of the highest ranked members. Swollen Members is one of only three rap groups affiliated with Rock Steady.

That same year, the duo began recording their first tracks, with help from many of their friends from the scene - MCs, DJs, and producers, including Rob the Viking. Rob would continue to work with the group through the years, eventually joining them later. From the praise they were receiving, they decided it was time to release their material as a group. With the subsequent release of three 12” singles on Mad Child’s record label Battleaxe Records, the group quickly established themselves in the scene and built a respectable following. The next logical step was to release an album, which was titled Balance and released in 1999.

Last Emperor - Do you remember?

Known globally as one of the finest lyricists, the Last Emperor thrusted his way onto the scene in the late nineties. He honed his skills on the “open mic” circuit including the legendary Lyricist Lounge showcase. His eminent stage presence and hypnotizing live show stood out amongst his fellow peers, ultimately landing him on the” C.I.A (Criminals in Action)” record with KRS-One and Zack De La Roche (of the former Grammy winning band Rage Against the Machines) for Rawkus Records “Lyricist Lounge Volume 1” project.

Staying busy, the Last Emperor released several singles to a loyal fan following who hung on to his every word. During this period, Last Emperor began to gain the respect of top notch producers like Prince Paul (De La Soul, Stetsasonic, & Gravediggaz), DJ Muggz (Cypress Hill & Soul Assassins), & Diamond D (D.I.T.C) - all of which he would come to recorded with. As a result, fans of hip-hop music were introduced to classics like “Secret Wars”, “Monumental”, “Animalistics”, “Charlie”, “Meditations”, and “Do u Remember”.

As his star began to shine brighter, Emp gained notice outside of the tri-state area and obtained his first deal, on a major label nonetheless, with Dr. Dre’s (N.W.

Outerspace - Spanish Fly

OuterSpace is the brainchild of Philadelphia MC’s Planetary and Crypt the Warchild. The philosophy of OuterSpace runs much deeper than music; it’s a family. The two founding members have been friends almost since birth and found a common bond in the music they grew up on such as Gangstarr and EPMD.

The OuterSpace vision began to take shape in the early 90’s as the duo worked tirelessly to hone the skills that would eventually lead to an alliance with fellow Philladelphians Jedi Mind Tricks and their home-grown label Superegular Recordings. In 1998, Superegular released their debut single We Lyve which was met with critical praise for its complex, scientific rhymes and ethereal, seemingly other-worldly beats.

Jedi Mind Tricks - Godflesh (feat. King Magnetic & Block McCloud)

Jedi Mind Tricks (JMT) is a hip hop group formed in 1996 with two members from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and one from Camden, New Jersey. The group was founded by two high school friends rapper Vinnie Paz (Vincenzo Luvineri) and producer / DJ Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind (Kevin Baldwin). In 1999 the New Jersey rapper Jus Allah (James Bostick) joined the group to record the 2nd studio album by JMT, Violent by Design but left shortly after for reasons that remain unexplained. The track “The Rebuilding” (2006) marked his unofficial return to JMT since the split, but made a full fledged return aside Vinnie Paz for the 6th studio album, A History of Violence (2008).

DJ Kwestion is also a part of the group, mainly scratching choruses on the turntable. Kwestion (or Kwes) is also a part of the group Skratch Makaniks. Kwestion was a replacement for JMT’s previous tour DJ, Drew Dollars, who is no longer affiliated with the group.

JMT has collaborations with both regional MCs and rap veterans, including GZA, Kool G Rap, 7L & Esoteric, Sean Price, Ras Kass, Canibus, Percee P, Killah Priest, Louis Logic, R.A. the Rugged Man, Tragedy Khadafi, and Ill Bill. The group has sold 250,000 albums in the United States and 300,000 albums worldwide, all of which were released independently.

Sabac (Ft. Slaine, Jordan Battiste) - Death & Destiny [Prod. Sicknature]

Sabac Red is a former member of the hip-hop group Non Phixion, born in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. His family moved to Brooklyn, NY when he was 4 years old.

Sabac began his journey into hip-hop as a b-boy and aspiring graffiti artist. At the age of 12 Sabac began exploring the art of emceeing. He would listen to the mix shows and memorize other MCs’ lyrics. He would then make parodies of the song’s using his own lyrics. Sabac would perform at block parties, school talent shows and anywhere there was music and a mic constantly battling other MCs and nurturing his craft.

While a freshman at Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, NY Sabac would promote parties and shows for artists such as Milk and Gizmo, Big Daddy Kane, Greg Nice and many other hip-hop legends.

While in school, Sabac found himself getting into trouble with the law. He had to do community service at the CityKids Foundation (http://www.citykids.org) where he ended up learning how to use his lyrics to express his pain and the things that were going on around him. He received training in Facilitation, Conflict Management, Public Speaking, Curriculum Design/ Implementation and much more. CityKids was and still is a place that develops young artists and leaders.

With help from his mentors Malik Yoba, Jamal Joseph and Alex Atkinson, Sabac had the opportunity to learn, create and grow with his peers who have become some of today’s very successful artists including: Dash Mihok, Donald Fasion, Lauren Hill, Dule Hill, Mario Vasquez, and many more.

Big Jess - That Morning

Big Jess and MaD SoN both are graduates of Edison High School, where they met and began playing music together. After “World Premier”, the group, along with other artists from N. E. Time, released “Welcome to Northeast”, a two-disc album. 2003 brought two new albums from the group, “Now You Know” and “The W.E.T. Ep”. 2005 brought “Summer Heat”, and in 2006, the group released “The Road Less Travelled”, which boosted their fame among the Twin Cities’ Hip Hop scene.

Apollo Brown - Odds Aint Fair feat Hassaan Mackey

Apollo Brown is different than most producers. He grew up on the Seals and Crofts—not the Isley Brothers—version of “Summer Breeze.” Born into a bi-racial family in Grand Rapids, Michigan, his early influences skewed more toward the music of Journey and the Carpenters than the urban genres his peers often cite as inspiration. This is not to say that once hip-hop came into play, Apollo wasn’t all in. Just as easily as he can praise the virtues of yacht rock, the 29-year-old beatsmith can name personal heroes—Gang Starr, Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, M.O.P., Nas, and Black Moon—from the early 90s period in which, for him, beats and rhymes became life.

Apollo began making his own music in 1996 using now-archaic Voyetra audio software, then upgraded to Cool Edit 2000 in becoming a self-described bedroom beat-maker for roughly the next eight years. After graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in business administration, he moved to the west side of Detroit and immersed himself in the local hip-hop community, forming the Black Day in July production crew with high school classmate and Wu-Tang affiliate Bronze Nazareth. When the pair branched off into individual work, Apollo relocated to the east side of the Motor City and continued to build before becoming disenchanted with music and stepping away from production for two years.

It was the mid-2000s, and the upstart producer saw no future for his work—work he had dedicated his life to—in an industry where radio was setting a formulaic pattern for mainstream music.

Set Me On Fire - Pendulum - Immersion

Pendulumt are a drum and bass/rock group from Perth, Australia, who relocated to the UK in 2003. The group (2002) comprises Rob Swire (vocals/synth/producer), Gareth McGrillen (bass guitar/producer/DJ), Perry ap Gwynedd (guitar), Paul ‘El Hornet’ Harding (DJ), KJ Sawka (drums) and Ben ‘The Verse’ Mount (MC).

In 2005 they released their debut album, Hold Your Colour. Critically, the album was well-received in both the United Kingdom and Australia. In addition, it was one of the biggest selling Drum and Bass releases of all time. Pendulum have also collaborated with The Freestylers, releasing the single “Fasten Your Seatbelt”. MC $pyda and DJ Tenor Fly also feature as vocalists on “Tarantula”.

Pendulum’s sound is typically heavy beats accompanied by low, buzzing bass lines, overlaid with synthesized leads. As of their second album, In Silico, further experiments with sound are evident with many more elements from rock and typical electronic music being incorporated into their music. “In Silico” is Pendulum’s first album for Warner Bros. Records via the bands Ear Storm imprint.

Their track “Vault” was played by almost every DJ and was declared by annual Knowledge Drum’n’bass Awards as The Best Track of the Year. They’ve made a bunch of remixes, including a remix of Voodoo People by The Prodigy.

Zero 7 feat. Viktor Vaughn (DOOM) - Somersault (Danger Mouse Remix)

"Somersault (Danger Mouse Remix)" by Zero 7 feat. Viktor Vaughn (a.k.a. [MF] DOOM). This was the first time that DOOM & Mouse collabed before Danger Doom.
The original song (Somersault by Zero 7) is found on their album "When It Falls" and it's copyright (c) to Elektra Records.

Hoodie Allen - Words of Wisdom ft. Two Door Cinema Club

Make every word count. This has long been the mantra of Hoodie Allen, the New York based rapper and songwriter. With a penchant for candid storytelling and witty punchlines, Hoodie has always been an emcee who understood the importance of connecting with the audience through his lyrics. A purveyor of summertime anthems, Hoodie Allen has gained notable buzz on the internet for his unique genre-blending style, unafraid to sample from the unconventional norms of hip hop.

His most recent work samples a diverse array of artists and sounds from UK pop singers (Marina & The Diamonds) to indie rock staples and upstarts (Death Cab for Cutie). The idiosyncrasy of the music is very fitting as Hoodie Allen is not your typical rapper. A self-described, college educated music nerd, Hoodie Allen embraces his individuality and promotes it as the main message in his hype-machine breakout “You Are Not A Robot” (2010). The future is bright for Hoodie Allen. He plans to continue providing the masses with feel-good music for a long time.

Their influences include:

Shurik'n - Samourai

Shurik’n Chang-Ti (real name Geoffroy Mussard) is a French hip hop artist born in Marseille on 11 March 1966, with Malagasy and Réunionnais origins. He is one of the members of the highly successful group IAM, as well as a major solo artist. With his brother Faf Larage (Raphaël Mussard), he also forms the group La Garde.

In 1988, he met Akhenaton, with whom he formed IAM. Mussard adopted the stage name Shurik’n Chang-Ti, reflecting his interest in Oriental culture and his background in martial arts, such as judo, karate and kung fu (in which he won a European championship in 1998). IAM released their first album, IAM Concept’, in 1990.

After three albums with IAM, Shurik’n decided to start pursuing a solo career with his 1998 album Où je vis. Already in 1997, he had collaborated with his brother on the compilation disc Chroniques de Mars, and the two published their album La Garde (album)|La Garde in 2000. Shurik’n also continued working with IAM, who published their fifth album Revoir un printemps in 2003.

Roots Manuva

Roots Manuva, born Rodney Smith is a British hip-hop artist, who mixes hip hop with reggae and dub as well as electronica, and even some gospel. He grew up around Stockwell in South London. His parents were from a small village in Jamaica called Banana Hole where his father was a preacher and tailor. Spending much of his early years in poverty, this and his strict Pentecostal upbringing clearly had an influence on his music as can be seen in many of his tracks such as “Sinny Sin Sins” and “Colossal Insight”.

Smith made his recorded debut in 1994 as part of IQ Procedure through Suburban Base’s short-lived hip hop imprint Bluntly Speaking Vinyl. He debuted as Roots Manuva the same year on Blak Twang’s “Queen’s Head” single, before releasing his own single, “Next Type Of Motion” the following year. 1996 saw the release of his collaborations with Skitz (“Where My Mind Is At”/”Blessed Be the Manner”). The release of “Feva” followed in 1997; this was also the year that saw the first releases from Big Dada, a collaboration between Coldcut’s Ninja Tune label and hip hop journalist Will Ashon.

Releasing for Coldcut’s renowned experimental/hip-hop label Ninja Tune in 1998, some of his music may be seen as a predecessor of grime. The following year he released his fearsome debut album, “Brand New Second Hand”. Manuva was rewarded for his breakthrough with a MOBO as Best Hip Hop Act that year.

Cyne

CYNE (Cultivating Your New Experience) formed in the summer of 2001, in the swamps of Gainesville, Florida. CYNE is: emcees Akin and Cise Star, and producers Speck and Enoch — four distinct people, with the common goal of creating sincere and honest music.

Their often politically-charged, culturally-introspective, and motivational lyrics find influence rooted in the early works of Nas, Public Enemy, Outkast and Common Sense. The production could be described as warm, soulful and organic — born out of the school of producers that cite the likes of RZA, Pete Rock, Jay Dee, and DJ Premier. CYNE’s ‘sound’ is impacted by everything from Bad Brains to Krautrock, from Camp Lo to Kate Bush, from Venezuelan Gaita to West African Highlife — it’s a hybrid of emotional, historical, and challenging influences.

CYNE formed within the longtime hardcore/punk/d.i.y. tradition of Gainesville and collectively embrace a stylistic range that includes everything from prog to pop to metal. These cultural informers collided with CYNE’s practice of sampling and live instrumentation to create an album that is the cumulative representation of both the personal and the political.

The group’s debut release was a hard-hitting 12” entitled ‘African Elephants’ . Since then, CYNE has released a number of EPs, singles, and two critically well-received albums. They have also collaborated on projects with internationally acclaimed artists Daedelus, Four Tet and Nujabes.

Nujabes

Jun Seba (瀬葉淳) (February 7, 1974-February 26, 2010) was a Japanese hip-hop music producer who recorded under the name Nujabes (new-jah-behz; which is simply his real name spelled backwards). His music is known for a strong cool jazz influence, frequently using samples from artists like Miles Davis and Yusef Lateef.

He was also an owner of “tribe”, a record store in Shibuya, Tokyo, and led indie record label Hyde-Out Productions. He released two albums in Japan, Metaphorical Music in 2003 and Modal Soul in 2005. He was also a member of the production duo Urbanforest, an experimental collaboration with Nao Tokui (appearing on the Lady Brown 12”).

In addition to Japanese artists like Shing02 and MINMI, he has collaborated with underground American hip-hop acts Cyne, Apani B-Fly, Five Deez, Substantial, Fat Jon and British rapper Funky DL.

He has also contributed music to the soundtrack of Samurai Champloo, an anime which blends a setting in feudal Japan with modern anachronisms, especially hip-hop music.

On March 17, 2010, it was announced on the Hyde-Out Productions website that Jun passed away on February 26, 2010 at the age of 36 after being involved in a serious car accident on the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway. He was promptly transported to the hospital, where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Emancipator

To some, it must seem like this young electronic producer came out of nowhere. Emancipator (Douglas Appling) played his first live show in July 2009, opening for Bonobo at the Roseland Theater (cap. 1500). Since then, he’s toured with Bassnectar, drawn crowds at festivals like Trinumeral and Symbiosis, and closed out Sound Tribe Sector 9’s late night parties in Denver at the request of the band.

But those in the know have been following Emancipator since he self-released his first album, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, at the age of 19 in 2006. His agile melodies layered over headnodic, immaculately-produced beats captivated fans across the internet and across the world. “Soon It Will Be Cold Enough” was picked up by Japanese super-producer Nujabes, pressed in Japan and sold 5,000 copies in the first six months. Emancipator landed a Puma sponsorship, gave an interview to Rolling Stone Japan, discovered one of his songs was played at the Beijing Olympics (still trying to figure out how that happened) and his song “Shook,” a mashup that perfectly mixes Mobb Deep’s mighty raps with a haunting track from the Icelandic band Sigur Ros, become the highest-rated song on Hype Machine’s “Best 50 Songs of 2007,” and appeared on Hype Machine as the #2 most popular song in April 2009. Meanwhile, fans waited hungrily for the next album.

Biomecca

Biomecca is an indie hip hop group originally from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Currently living in Seattle, Washington Biomecca has one full length release called The Pilgrimage. For fans of underground hip hop like Swollen Members, One Be Lo, The Crest, Whiskey Blanket, P.O.S., Atmosphere, etc. and for fans of ski/snowboard/surfing.

Reef The Lost Cauze

Reef The Lost Cauze is a Philadelphia mic-slayer on a mission. While some emcees are strictly studio, and others are basic battle cats, Reef brings well-rounded talent to the table with formidable stage presence, strong song-writing skills, and ferocious freestyle ability. His bold new solo album, Feast Or Famine, will be released September 20th on Good Hands/Eastern Conference. On the same date, Reef will make even more impact with the release of the Army Of The Pharoahs LP, a collaborative effort with emcees Vinnie Paz, 7L and Esoteric, Outerspace, Chief Kamachi, Apathy, Celph Titled, King Syze, Des Devious, and Faez One. He is in the midst of planning some promotional touring in support of both projects.

Earlier this year, Reef’s Philly crew JuJu Mob released the album Black Candles to a wealth of praise from critics. Reef is preparing to release his own mixtape for the streets this August, in conjunction with the release of the first single, Fair One featuring Sean Price, from his upcoming Feast Or Famine LP. Needless to say, Reef The Lost Cauze is on the path to becoming one of Hip Hops true greats.

Having spent a great deal of his childhood acting in plays and performing, Reef fell in love with Hip Hop at the age of eight and has been rhyming ever since. By the time he reached high school, he had earned a reputation as a deadly battle emcee, jumping in any and every cipher he came across. It was not until he was accepted into Philadelphias University of the Arts on a film scholarship that he began to visualize a serious career on the mic. He began to hone his songwriting skills, and worked on perfecting his stage shows.

Blueprint - "Radio-Inactive"

This deserves a repost..

Critically acclaimed mc/producer and Soul Position frontman Blueprint, returns with his highly anticipated sophomore solo release Adventures in Counter-Culture. Experimenting with synths, keyboards, and drum machines, Adventures in Counter-Culture touches on Blueprint's cynicism with the world, his disdain for pop culture, the state of politics and an apathetic, uninspired society. The album encompasses every facet of music Blueprint knows. It blurs genre lines and connects his hip hop pedigree with his early days in the church choir, to the R&B bands he was a part of in high school, to his new found interest in rock and electronic music.

After a five year musical journey, Blueprint has emerged with his greatest effort to date. A culmination of self discovery and societal critique, Adventures in Counter-Culture is just that. The adventure begins March 1st, 2011.

[Blueprint]

It's my time I'm 'bout to blow
You slept first, but now you know
The rap game, a thousand clones
Arguing about their clothes
I used to chill at my home
Now I’m all about the road
Movin lockin down the shows
Hit the tele, count the dough
Shake hands, make plans, rent vans, make plans, god damn
This is how a little boy became a man
You want the fame and all the riches
Big name model bitches
But you don’t want to hustle twice as hard to try and get it
You gotta a lot to whine about
While you talking, wild n out
I’m posted outside the club
Workin passin flyers out
And what’s Prints life about?
The same thing I rhyme about
Make good music and give my fans something to smile about
You outta try it out
We like to call it honesty, its the best policy
The reason why they follow me
My reputation precedes me
The rap game needs me
Cause I do the impossible, but I make it look easy
Now all the underdogs wanna take shots at my figure
Cause I’m eatin real big and didn’t invite them to dinner
You wasn’t there when I put it in the oven
So when its time to break bread cousin, don’t ask me for nothin
Everybody got a rhyme and if not a rhyme they gotta beat
And if not ki's and cocaine
They all packin heat
So what they really tellin me, when they ain’t outsellin me
And everything they say and do is fueled by their jealousy
I know you're tryin to politic
And I'm only involved with it
So you can get in the game, take the ball and then run with it
They tried to hit me with the same thing that you fell for
"Make it more commercial Print, you probably would sell more"
But I’m eating now, so I’m like "what the hell for?"
Tellin me to change only makes me rebel more
But radio don’t want that, print don’t fit the format
Tell dude to change it up, and maybe he can come back
I made this in my basement, when you wasn’t even there
To express my feelings, not to be played on the air
So am I wrong or secure if I really don’t care
If this ever turns into something anybody hears
Man I’m an artist, these other dudes shook
I write my album on my sidekick, no paper, no notebook
Then rhyme for five minutes straight with no brakes and no hooks
No punch-lines, no similes, so I'm easy to overlook

I’ve been around in every single era and I'm still the man
And while I might not get the same hype as the next man
Everything in my life is going according to his plan
So thank god for every fan, every single listener
Who told me to make the art, you don't gotta switch it up
You put it out, we'll pick it up. Do you, stay strong
Your the main reason we don’t turn our radios on

Aether - Makeshift Sanctuary

Although his name might sound like that of a Latino revolutionary, San Antonio’s Diego Chavez is not the leader of a revolt, nor is he a civil rights activist. He is not the president of Venezuela. He does not rock or roll. He produces, but he is not a farmer. He is known by many names, including Otic Angst and A.M. Architect. He flows mellifluously on rich beats and aura-building sounds that sink deep into your pulse and move your body against your will. He is Aether, creator of electro hip-hop beats that soak your soul.

Artifacts, the first debut album, was released November 2008.

The Grouch & Eligh - Comin' Up ft. Mistah Fab (w/ ...

Verse 1 Grouch]
Well now they be claiming friend but they aint happy for me/
Seems more like a competition where you act like youre pleased/
Because everybodys missions to position themselves/
And build up a large supply of my personal wealth/
And if you see success you know that people will talk/
And yes, we all are equal and my ego aint lost either/
But Im neither stuck nor winning cause of this skin tone/
I made a buck off penning intelligent poems/
And if you think its all a fluke, go on and do you/
I hope the people feel youre fresh as much as you do/
But if it isnt working out just how you planned it/
Maybe youre the one who doesnt understand it/

[Verse 2 Mistah F.A.B.]
I thank god that Im blessed with the gift/
But all that really means is that Im stressed with the curse/
The better it gets, this mess gets worse/
My head I lift for those dead in the dirt/
The dead I miss until my head it hurts/
My mother rock this before she head out to work/
I sit and reminisce of homies dead on my shirt/
I wish I could shift like the axis on the Earth/
And get away from this nonsense on the turf/
But lifes got a twist like a football Nerf/
In the middle of the mist close friends got murked/
With the fiddle of a wrist other friends got worked/
Some shit will make you sick so what is it all worth?/
Man a symbol of a fist is for why we all search/
Black power, white power, brown power, it will work/
But power dont exist at the bottom since birth/
We gotta get chips, show the world what were worth/
You can talk with your lips but you must listen first/

[Verse 3 Eligh]
We gotta come up like CVE/
On MTV/
Not really my seed/
Some E-Y-Es gotta see G&E in the flesh/
The decree to impede to the surface/
To purchase a home is a dream that I need/
Hold me back never that/
No soul no man could ever sever/
We lack for making the weather better/
Sunshine make it on mine to the feather/
One time cant arrest my development/
Into the sea just wanna be free do me/
Wont hate on another mans cape/
Thats not my fate/
Ill get my taste just wait/
Patience is not my best suit/
Yet Im not here to impress you/
Just brush em off when they test you/
Bless you/
