P.O.S - Purexed
I’ve been waiting for just the right moment to share my love for P.O.S. with you, world… and I’m going to pretend that moment is now. (If not now, when, right?) P.O.S. is, as he spits in one of his other songs, “Presented by Doomtree / Sponsored by the Rhymesayers.” Often, other artists (such as Dessa, Cecil Otter, and Sims) signed to Doomtree, a label that P.O.S. helped spearhead, are featured in P.O.S.’s songs. Slug of Atmosphere, though not part of Doomtree, is signed by Rhymesayers, and so makes occasional appearances as well.
The featured song Purexed, however, is purely Stefon Alexander… P.O.S.’s birthname. Playing punk rock in high school, Alexander garnered the nickname Pissed Off Stef. (I’ll let you connect the dots.) The drums in Purexed are quintessentially heavy. And the lyrics themselves are no light affair.
Led along by bouncy violin and sparkling chimes, the lyrics gather speed in an ether left in the absence of scansion and meter. They grip us physically, like ”I’m trying not to slip, / Been trying not to lose footing, / Loose land keeps the pressure on my kicks, / But when I fall I tend to land like a ton of bricks, / Stand like a man made of concrete and sediment.” The lyrics are sufficiently gritty; they scream “Fuck it” because they don’t care about anything other than “Them words from love, / No hits, / I let the track stand, / Like how it was written is how it hit me.“ They actually challenge, “Let ‘em try to find the beauty in the bass-line,” and there, in that chorus, humming bass amalgamating with the drum rolling drone, we see it how P.O.S. spits it.
Making music’s not about keeping it neat. That’s just the exterior, and ”Fuck your skin, nobody needs it / There’s bones, muscles, and blood, / What’s realer than fat and tendons? / It’s raw, no soft tissue / To draw your eyes to it / So far flesh aint the truest at all / Let’s rip into it.” It’s not about making hits, so P.O.S. sings “We won’t sing with what will fade away / Yeah we do our own damn thing / We don’t blink at what tomorrow might bring at all.”
And from all this drum rolling and reality-checking, we come out feeling purged, sparkling clean: “Like hands steadily purexed, but never quite clean.”

Blu - “D O O W H O P” Ft. Planet Asia
Blu drops some heat on this track, “D O O W H O P,” featuring Planet Asia. Sounds like motown motor city sampling by Alchemist to craft this throwback feel of a song.
Lykke Li - “I Follow Rivers” The Oohs and Ahhs Remix
Lykke Li is always welcome in my book and infusing her music with some hard synths and a heavy electronic sound only make songs like, “I Follow Rivers,” fit back into the rotation smoothly. The Oohs & Ahhs pump some life back into this song which has been remixed heavily, check this one out.
The Game - Pot Of Gold ft. Chris Brown
New official music video for The Game' s "Pot Of Gold ft. Chris Brown on the hook. I haven't heard something from The Game that I've loved in a while, but this song and video are great. No bulljive or fronting, just some real talk. This will be on Game's R.E.D. album dropping 8/23.

M83 - 'Midnight City' (Christian Strobe Remix)
Christian Strobe has remixed M83’s, already brilliant, 'Midnight City', toning down the synths ever so slightly, making it a little less dreamy and more upbeat. In festival terms, this one’s ripe for the Saturday evening when you’re on the way up as opposed to the Sunday evening when you’re so disorientated from the weekend’s events that the original’s summer haze is just about all you can take.

Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know
After the sweeping success of his 2006 album Like Drawing Blood, Australian singer, songwriter and drummer Gotye (born Walter De Backer) decided to take a break and put his solo career on hold for a while. He spent the next three years mainly recording and touring with Melbourne-based indie rock band The Basics, who have also enjoyed widespread success across Australia.
Finally, last March Gotye released his first new original song in four years, “Eyes Wide Open”, and announced that he was working on an album to be released before the end of the year. Anticipation for the new album, Making Mirrors, is at fever pitch following the release of Gotye’s heart-stopping new single “Somebody That I Used To Know (Feat. Kimbra)” which is currently the #1 most played song on Triple J and #4 on the iTunes Singles Chart.

As a bonus here’s a gorgeous ambient remix of Gotye’s 2007 hit single “Heart’s a Mess”. This re-work comes courtesy of Sydney-base electronica trio RÜFÜS, a young combo that has been making huge waves around the world in the past few months.

Alex Metric & Charli XCX – End Of The World (Russ Chimes Remix)
Last month Alex Metric premiered End of the World (ft. Charli XCX) on Annie Mac’s radio show, the latest single off his first ever album Open Your Eyes, set to be released on August 22. An album of remixes and productions, Open Your Eyes is basically a compilation of his work from the past 2 years, and includes remixes of Phoenix’s Lisztomania, N.E.R.D.’s Hypnotize U, and Beastie Boys’ Sabotage, to name a few.
This Alex Metric track really showcases the versatility of his productions with its moody melody, heavy synth line, and sultry vocals from Charli XCX. Preview the track on the Annie Mac radio rip below.
Russ Chimes’ remix turns it up a notch as he strays from his usual nu disco sound and creates a real electro joint. I love the high pitched vocals and the excitement he builds throughout the track.

Kreayshawn vs Flux Pavilion · Gucci Can’t Stop
Kicking off DOSVEC’s upcoming dubstep // mashup mixtape, DIFF – set to release late next month – I’ve got a swagged-out mashup of Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci” and Flux Pavilion’s “I Can’t Stop”. This shit hits from the top and swags to the bottom with a grimey mix of the two.
The only issue I’ve got with the mashup is it uses the censored version of Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci”.

Kenneth Bager Mixtape Volume 1
Just because it's Monday doesn't mean that your day has to suck! This mixtape from Kenneth Bager is just as bright and lively as the above press photo. It was carefully crafted by Bager to get your ears ready for his upcoming album The Sounds Of... which is due out on October 3rd via Deconstruction Records, which he recently signed to.
The Sounds Of... is the perfect introduction to the weird and wonderful world of the Kenneth Bager experience. Make sure you keep your eyes and ears peeled for the forthcoming single "The Sound Of Swing", a timelessly melodic summer anthem in the making which features Kenneth’s own children’s choir alongside the soulful crooning of Aloe Blacc.

Edition – Inspire
"Inspire” takes from some of the best sports speeches in film history and sets it against a backdrop of melodic dubstep that’s “inspiring” to say the least. The speeches get a little hokey at times, especially the “Friday Night Lights” speech – I’ve heard too many renditions – but the instrumentals more than make up for ‘em.
Bastille – Flaws (Walter Sobcek Remix)
EP ’Miami,’ which is their second single, on Schmooze (the label home to Chilly Gonzales and Housse de Racket).
Miami was recorded and mixed with the help of producer Samy Osta (Chromeo, Cocosuma and Syd Matters). The single package includes 3 remixes of Miami by Muffin, Pharao Black Magic and Kido Yoji, plus bonus track Hollywood Cries.
Their new remix of Batille’s ‘Flaws’ and is a smooth piece of acoustic electro combining the synths of say a Roksopp and the warm Fench summery vibes of Air. It’s lovely. We can’t wait to hear their new EP. Stay tuned.

Mike Posner – Shut Up feat. Rusko
Mike Posner has now collaborated with Rusko on his new track Shut Up. You may expect to hear some dubstep wobbles but there aren’t any in this track. Still love the Rusko snyths, claps and kicks but I miss his Wobble. Still a chill tune but it worries me, is Chris Mercer’s dubstep producing finished? I hope not.

Aesop Rock - Daylight (Live)
The stage presentation of Aesop Rock’s new crew Hail Mary Mallon, which features emcee Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz, is one of relentless upbeat fun. Their caffeinated onslaught of back-and-forth rhymes hits like A Tribe Called Quest for the ADD generation. “Smock” quickly got the audience in convulsions with Wiz’s deft scratches serving as the exclamation point. When fists nearly flew between a couple plastered fratboys in the crowd shortly thereafter, Aesop was quick to call for peace and keep the show’s positive vibe intact.
“Daylight,” the abstract, be-your-own-God anthem which made Aesop a cult hero a decade ago, inspired hearing loss levels of sing along. This night, however, was all about the collaborative spirit between Aesop, Rob Sonic and freak folk impresario Kimya Dawson.
Dawson, who most will know as one half of the quirky Moldy Peaches of Juno soundtrack fame, uses her gonzo imagination to flesh out soul-cleansing ballads and children’s songs alike. Unfortunately, her rambling acoustic constructions were somewhat lost in the buzzing chatter of the sold-out Casbah. It took until the latter part of Aesop’s set for Dawson to reemerge victorious, trading verses with the San Francisco-based emcee as they lit Kettner Blvd. ablaze with the delightfully-sinister “Bats.”

MIKE SLOTT - Pointing Fingers
Over the last few years Mike has cemented his reputation at the forefront of futurist hip hop production. With a style that is hard to pin down - encompassing myriad influences from free jazz to 80s boogie via golden age hip hop. His previous work alongside Hudson Mohawke as Heralds of Change set the benchmark for the new-school of dynamic beatmakers. Since then he has released 2 solo 7”s on All City, a split 7” with Dabrye, appeared on Beat Dimensions 2, Mary Anne Hobbs ‘Wild Angels’ compilation and provided high profile remixes for Warp and Citinite. Forthcoming projects include a collaborative EP alongside esteemed Dutch producer Martyn.
Originally from Dublin, via Glasgow, now based in Harlem NYC Mike has many places to draw upon. The son of the late-Jazz legend Mike Nolan and brother to the modern classical composer Luke Slott, Mike effortlessly embodies his influences on this release.
The last 12 months have seen Mike tour extensively throughout the US and Europe including high profile appearances at SONAR 09, BRAINFEEDER & CMJ. With this release we see stylistically unique avant-garde hip hop from an artist sure to move up into even bigger territory.

G.O.O.D. Music
The wonderful people over at VEVO responsible for the SXSW 2011 Kanye West show have finally released the very high quality video from the event. Pretty Amaze-Balls, however, no “All of the Lights” with ‘Ye backed by the High School band? Bummer. Nevertheless, Jay-Z, Mos Def, Kid Cudi, John Legend etc…not bad.
I think it should be said that Pinpoint brain-trust was in attendance, one way or another, in various states of sobriety. “Dark Fantasy” kicked off Kanye’s set – I’m not really a “keeping track of set list” guy, so yeah…
How big is this Watch The Throne album going to be? Pretty big?…is that a safe answer? Yes.
Wish I could have got a little more Cudi and less…other guys.
A recent addition to the whole G.O.O.D. Music/Friends of Kanye tribe, Mos Def opened the show with some awesome weirdness. Wouldn’t you totally go to a circus that was hosted by Mos Def? Get on it.
I go back and forth on this song; is it my least favorite? do I absolutely love it? I don’t know. But I have definitely gotten my fuck-on to John Legend, and at the same time, I openly admit to having a John Legend man-crush. Is that weird? Again, I just don’t know.

London based, Weird World Records, recently updated their soundcloud with Washed Out remixes. Star Slinger's revision of 'Eyes Be Closed' is an absolute gem, and nothing less is expected from the man. All of his remixes are beautifully beatastic, but this one I wish was longer. Great stuff.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - "Wings"
After a series of bts videos and assorted hype, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis premiere through XXL the visuals for their profound tune "Wings". The track initially made quite a splash when first released a while back, with layers of meaning and hoop-laced connotations of a status-obsessed society, now it's great to see the Zia Mohajerjasbi-directed sights to back it all up.
Sol - "The Times" ft. Grieves & Budo
New release from yesterday rolled out by NW rhymesmith Sol, featuring work from a regional alliance and Rhymesayers signees Grieves & Budo on "The Times". Always tough to pass up any material from the lyricist / producer duo of G&B, who do it right on this piece gearing up for Sol's upcoming EP release. Check out the words below on the track, see what you think.
This song is the second leak off of my EP, Dear Friends, Vol. III, now coming out for free download on 7/25 (http://www.solsays.com). On this genre-blending single Rhymesayers artists Grieves & Budo along with myself tell a story of changing music, technology, and how musicians have adapted.

Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks (Alcala Remix)
Really fabulous remix from Alcala. This time he remixed the forever catchy “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People. If you dig this tune make sure to check out his remix he did for “The Beat Is Your Source” and more on his Soundcloud page.

Beastie Boys - Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win (Full Length)
Your average rap video, this is not! In the 11-minute course of Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win, the plasticized trio gets shot at, shoots back, escapes in a submarine, takes Santigold waterskiing, and kills many bad guys.
The stupendous Spike Jonze video will please anyone who enjoyed Team America, likes toys murdering each other, yetis, fake snow, cheeky dialogue, knife-attacks, sniper rifles, torpedos, denouement, or parachuting. And, of course, the Beastie Boys. Watch it in HD for full toysplosion glee.

A few fun favorites for you to get your bass on this fine Monday: rockin’ glitch-hop from LA-based edIT, piano-laden chill-step from French Square Mode, and an especially bright and shiny Spor (aka Feed Me) dubstep remix from British Chasing Shadows.

MYK – As Time Goes By
Today I’m serving something up very chilled indeed. MYK aka Michael Hodgson is only 17 but is already making some really original tracks. The piano samples are original and oh so good. His latest track ‘One Day’ is slow and peaceful at the moment but is going to get a drum and bass twist to it soon.

You Woke Me Up! - Andrew Bird
Oh how beautiful are the soft and delicate melodies of Andrew Bird. It reminds me of exploring the forest, going to areas of it that I have never explored before filled with a sense of wonder.

Calvin Harris - Feel So Close
Just days after premiering his new single on BBC Radio 1, Calvin Harris has dropped the music video for "Feel So Close". The potential summer hit is set to see an official release August 21st via Columbia.
Like the Scottish producers' last video ("Bounce"), most of the filming takes place in a sparse suburban town on the outskirts of the desert. This time around though, instead of Kelis and the Vegas strip, you get an old cowboy and cheerleaders. Still a good watch nonetheless. Check out the visual for "Feel So Close" below.

Widowspeak – Wicked Game (Chris Isaak Cover)
Widowspeak is a Brooklyn band with a lead singer who could melt the coldest of hearts. Seriously, Molly Hamilton’s smokey, sultry pipes are really working for me right now, particularly in her band’s cover of Chris Isaak’s dead-sexy 90s hit, “Wicked Games.”
The Cinematic Orchestra
The Cinematic Orchestra is a U.K.-based jazz and electronic outfit, created in the late 1990s by Jason Swinscoe, which records on the Ninja Tune independent record label.
Other members include Tom Chant (saxophone), Phil France (double bass), Luke Flowers (drums), Nick Ramm (piano), Stuart McCallum (guitar); former members include Jamie Coleman (trumpet), T. Daniel Howard (drums), Alex James (piano), and Patrick “PC” Carpenter (turntables).
In both live and studio context, the Cinematic Orchestra employ a live band which improvises along with a turntablist and electronic elements such as samples provided by Swinscoe. In their studio releases Swinscoe will often remix the live source material to produce a finished product that is seamless combination of live jazz improvisation with electronics, such that it is difficult to tell where the improvisation ends and the production begins. It is worth mentioning that in the sound of the Cinematic Orchestra the role of traditional solo instruments, such as piano or wind instruments, is not the same as in traditional jazz; instead of performing intricate solos they provide a mature accompaniment environment and quite often there is more space for the drums and the double bass to have a lead role.

Gym Class Heroes - Stereo Hearts Feat. Adam Levine (Dillon Francis Remix) INSTRUMENTAL
Check out this great little remix of Stereo Hearts by Dillon Francis. Gym Class Heroes & Adam Levine of Maroon5 joined to create a sensational pop song with Stereo Hearts, but with Dillon taking and molding it into his own, the song takes new shape and gives you an extra kick.

Grieves · On the Rocks - Video
Take a look at this music video for “On the Rocks”. Love what Grieves does with his vocals, it’s refreshing to hear among the hip-hop I gotta tread through each day.

DeathStar - Ultraviolet Halo
DeathStar consists of the two electro-talents, MartyParty & Minnesota. Their first hit, remixing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”, was featured on our Rompin Remixes of “Rolling in the Deep” compilation and started the mood off right with their Future Bass sound. Now the two have put out a new Ep, ULTRAVIOLET HALO, which brings a few classics forward and continues that futuristic shyt.
Most notable of the tracks, DeathStar remixes Wiz Khalifia’s “On My Level”. Not really a Khalifia fan, but damn is this hypnotizing, plus there’s a few dirty electro-bursts to boot. But as good as it is, the top pick goes to “Funk Soul” with fat drops from the Slimboy himself- FatBoy.. Slim. The next few are decent tracks, but not quite as memorable. They do, however, bring it for a “Seismic” ending.
Get ready for these two, it’s gonna be an intergalactic bassfest in the coming future.
